Press Release - Apply to Serve on the Elk Grove Planning Commission

The City of Elk Grove is currently accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the city’s Planning Commission.

The Planning Commission has the following land use responsibilities:

  • Hear and decide appeals of the decisions of the Planning Director and Zoning Administrator.
  • Hear and decide applications for conditional use permits, variances, major design review, major uniform sign programs, extensions to nonconforming use status, tentative subdivision maps, and tentative parcel maps.
  • Review and approve or disapprove official zoning interpretations.
  • Hear and make recommendations to the City Council on applications or proposals for amendments to the Elk Grove Municipal Code Chapter 23.10.040
  • Initiate studies of amendments to the Elk Grove Municipal Code and make recommendations to the City Council for amendments to this title.
  • Hear and make recommendations to the City Council on applications for zoning amendments, General Plan and amendments thereto, specific plans, special planning areas, pre-zoning, and other related planning studies.
  • Exercise such other powers and duties as are prescribed by State law, local ordinance, or as directed by the City Council.

The Planning Commission is a standing city committee comprised of five voting members. Planning Commission meetings are held the first and third Thursday of every month at 6:00 p.m. at Elk Grove City Hall (8400 Laguna Palms Way).

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, a resident of the city of Elk Grove, and registered to vote. Neither elected or appointed officials of another public entity serving Elk Grove, nor officers and employees of the City are eligible.

Elk Grove Mayor Steve Ly will make the appointment with the approval of the City Council. Appointees will be required to take an Oath of Allegiance and disclose personal assets and interests as required by the Political Reform Act.

The application is available online from the city’s website at www.elkgrovecity.org. Completed and signed applications must be submitted to the Office of the City Clerk at 8401 Laguna Palms Way by 5 p.m. on February 5.
