Press Release - Elk Grove Joins Sacramento County to Update Hazard Mitigation Plan

Posted: 03/31/2016

Public participants sought to assist with update to region’s FEMA approved plan; Kickoff Meeting Scheduled on April 5

Help Elk Grove and the region to be hazard ready. The City of Elk Grove will join Sacramento County and other local cities and special districts to launch an update of the joint Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP). An initial planning and public information meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 5 at Laguna Town Hall (3020 Renwick Avenue). The Planning Committee will meet from 2-5 pm. A general information meeting is scheduled from 6-7:30 pm.

The Local Hazard Mitigation Plan forms the foundation for a long-term strategy to reduce disaster losses. Communities with a FEMA-approved LHMP are eligible for pre- and post-disaster FEMA grant funding and lower costs for flood insurance to residents through the National Flood Insurance Program’s (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS).

Members of the public are encouraged to participate on the LHMP update planning committee. The commitment requires attendance at 5 afternoon meetings over the next six months and reviewing and providing comments on the plan drafts via email. If you are interested in volunteering as a Planning Committee Member, please contact Celine Livengood at 916-874-3130 or livengoodc@saccounty.net.
