Project Overview

The project includes a new ground up building of approximately 17,000 SF located on an undeveloped City owned parcel located at the corporation yard at the corner of Iron Rock Way and Union Park Way. The total land area required by project is approximately 2.80 acres, which includes public parking and service parking lots, outdoor animal yards, kennels, low-cost spay and neuter clinic, and landscape and hardscape areas.

Schedule

Date Description
September 22 and November 13, 2014
Public meetings held to discuss and receive feedback from the community about the project.
January 28, 2015  City Council authorized staff to take initial steps to build an Animal Shelter.
March 28, 2016 Public meeting to share the conceptual design and next steps. 
May 11, 2016  City Council authorized staff to develop a schematic design and environmental review. 
November 9, 2016 City Council requested that staff incorporate a low-cost spay and neuter clinic in the proposed new shelter. 
April 3, 2017  Public meeting held to discuss the project and receive feedback on the schematic design and operations  of the facility programming. 
May 18, 2017  Planning Commission is scheduled to consider the project. 
June 14, 2017 City Council is scheduled to consider the project. 
Spring 2018 to Spring 2019  Construction 
Spring 2019  Grand Opening
