NEW: Slideshow presentation from the January 25, 2017 City Council meeting.
At the January 13, 2016 Council meeting, the Council provided direction to complete a combined Senior Center/Community Center Feasibility Study
. The Feasibility Study was completed and approved by the City in July 2016. The Study includes a market analysis of the space requirements and rental demand and how the Community Center could be effectively integrated with a Senior Center. The Community Center could be used for senior programming as well as a variety of community events, classes and functions.
Concurrent with the development of the Community/Senior Center, the City has been working with local veterans organizations since 2014 on the development of a Veterans Memorial Hall. In summer 2016, the three local veterans organizations voted to incorporate the veterans hall space within the larger Community Center building to reduce operating costs and better serve Elk Grove’s veterans. Design is currently underway for the combined Community Center facility including collaboration with the Senior Center of Elk Grove and the veterans groups to design a facility that meets each group’s needs.
Schematic design approval was approved by the Planning Commission and City Council in January 2017. Final design is expected to be completed by Fall 2017 with construction completed in early 2019.
