Short Story Contest

Submission deadline is August 1, 2021, 5:00pm

Prizes awarded to First Place ($200) & Second Place ($100) Winners

Rules for Entry

  • $5.00 entry fee to be paid at manuscript submission. Formstack applications must be paid via credit card only.
  • Authors must be 18 years or older
  • Formstack entries only
  • No submissions will be accepted after August 1, 2021

Short Story Requirements

  • Story has a connection to Elk Grove
  • Authors must be 18 years or older
  • Word limit 2,000 or less. Final word count at top of first page
  • Fiction or non-fiction
  • Manuscripts must be in a PDF

Winners announced on Saturday, October 9, 2021 during the Great Read Book Faire located at District56.

Author and Book Vendor Booth Application

Booth Information

  • Vendors must bring their own tables, chairs, canopy (optional)
  • No access to electricity
  • Spaces are assigned by the EG Arts Commission
  • Outside booth space fee $25 (10 x 10’) or *Limited to 5 Inside booth space fee $50 (8’ x 36", includes 5’ table and 2 chairs)

Writer’s Conference

The Elk Grove Writers Guild will be hosting the Elk Grove Writers Conference at the Center at District56 on October 9th, 2021.  Admission is $60 and includes a light breakfast. Lunch is on your own.

The day-long Conference will feature a keynote speaker, classes on the craft of writing, and the opportunity for writers to schedule an interview with an editor and/or publisher about their work in progress.
