The City of Elk Grove hosts waste tire collection events to support a clean and healthy environment. At each of these events, any resident from Sacramento County can drop off waste tires for FREE. Upon completion of the collection event, the tires are taken for proper recycling and disposal. The purpose of tire recycling is to collect, remove and recycle waste tires that might otherwise end up in illegal tire piles around our region where illegal dumping has occurred. Old tires provide shelter for rodents, lower property values and in landfills tires consume up to 75 percent air space, not to mention they do not break down. 40 million tires a year are generated in California alone, so it is important to keep them out the landfill and out of our environment.
