Could a new zoo be in Elk Grove's future? Representatives from the City of Elk Grove,Sacramento Zoological Society, and national professionals associated with some of the country's largest, most successful zoo projects will share the findings of a draft feasibility study during a virtual Town Hall Meeting nextThursday, March 10, at6 p.m.
The City and Zoological Society entered into an Exclusive Negotiating Agreement (ENA) in September 2021 to consider constructing a modern zoological park for the region in Elk Grove.RS&S (Relevant Strategies and Solutions), a leader in zoo facility planning under contract with the Sacramento Zoological Society, is preparing a feasibility study to evaluate the viability of the project. The study will include four main components: a project vision, concept program and plan, a high-level construction budget, and a strategic business plan that will consider ways to fund the construction, start-up, and long-term operation of a new zoo.
This meeting will share the findings of the draft study, answer questions, and solicit feedback from the community before it is shared with the Elk Grove City Council on or about March 23. The meeting will be recorded and a copy of the recording and the meeting materials, including the draft feasibility study, will be posted to the city's website atelkgrovecity.org/zoofollowing the meeting.
