A 13-year-old is in custody after leading officers on a pursuit in a reported stolen vehicle and then being involved in a fatal collision.

On June 3, 2024, at 9:18 p.m., the Elk Grove Police Department responded to an alert of a reported stolen vehicle, a Toyota Sienna, in the area of Grant Line Road and Highway 99. Officers located the vehicle near Elk Grove Boulevard and Highway 99 and attempted to initiate a stop. The driver refused to stop and led officers on a pursuit.

Officers lost sight of the stolen vehicle when it entered a neighborhood to the east of the intersection of Laguna Boulevard and Franklin Boulevard. The stolen vehicle then exited the neighborhood westbound on Laguna Boulevard and struck a Nissan Rogue in the intersection that was making a northbound turn onto Franklin Boulevard from eastbound Laguna Boulevard.

The collision caused the stolen vehicle to roll over. Officers quickly rendered aid to both drivers. The driver of the Nissan Rogue, a 55-year-old man, was transported to a local hospital where he later died as a result of the injuries he suffered in the collision. Identification of the deceased will be made by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

The 13-year-old male driver of the stolen vehicle was transported to a local area hospital for a medical evaluation, arrested on several charges including felony evading, felony evading resulting in serious injury or death, and later booked at Juvenile Hall.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to call the Elk Grove Police Department Traffic Bureau at (916) 478-8153.
