FATAL HIT AND RUN COLLISION

ELK GROVE, CA - On March 29, 2022, at 8:35 p.m., officers responded to the area of Elk Grove Boulevard and Shorelake Drive after several 9-1-1 calls of a person down in the road. When officers arrived, they found a deceased man with injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle.

The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian, a 53-year-old man, was crossing Elk Grove Boulevard and Shorelake Drive when the suspect vehicle, traveling westbound on Elk Grove Boulevard, struck the pedestrian who was not in a crosswalk. The suspect vehicle then left the scene. Approximately a few hours later, the driver of the suspect vehicle arrived at the Elk Grove Police Department. The driver, a 17-year-old male, was arrested and booked into custody at Juvenile Hall on charges of Vehicular Manslaughter (Penal Code 192(c)), Hit and Run resulting in Death (Penal Code 20001 (b)(2)), and Hit and Run resulting in Injury (Penal Code 20001 (a)).

The exact cause of the collision is under investigation. Alcohol or drugs were not factors; however, speed was.
