Press Release - Police Chief Timothy Albright Announces Retirement

Today,Elk Grove Chief of PoliceTimothy Albright announced his intent to retire from theElk Grove Police Department(EGPD).

"It has been an honor to work alongside the men and women of the Elk Grove Police Department who work with passion and empathy to keep Elk Grove safe and thriving," stated Chief Albright. "Coming to Elk Grove for the final chapter of my career has been most rewarding. I look forward to watching the Department continue to advance its culture of professionalism and community connection and while I will certainly miss the daily interactions with our amazing staff and community members, in this next chapter I am looking forward to spending more time with my wife, Kristina, and our three children. Elk Grove really is a special place and I am so fortunate to have had the opportunity to serve this great organization and this great community."

Chief Albright has devoted more than 32 years to public service in the greater Sacramento region. His career has included seventeen years of service to the Elk Grove community and positions with the University of California Medical Center and the Placer County and Sacramento County Sheriff's Offices.

The world has changed a lot since Chief Albright became Chief of Police in 2019. Periods of local civil unrest, calls for reform, and an unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic have been challenges under his administration. Remarkably, the Police Department maintained a high-level of service and low crime rates despite these circumstances. Under Chief Albright's leadership, the Elk Grove Police Department doubled the size of its Mobile Crisis Support and Homeless Outreach Teams; expanded the use of technologies like body-worn and in-vehicle cameras, the UAS (drone) program and the Real Time Information Center to enhance intelligence, transparency, and communications; formed new partnerships and fostered relationships with community and faith-based organizations and created a Community Engagement Unit to better connect with the community.

"He has shown a deep commitment to our community and introduced innovative solutions to address our community's most pressing public safety challenges. His efforts to build trust and develop a culture within the department that values transparency, accountability and performance, leave an enduring legacy in our City."

"Chief Albright has done an incredible job leading our police department," saidElk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen. "He has supported numerous programs that have better connected law enforcement with our community and we are a stronger and safer city thanks to his leadership."

Chief Albright has committed to assisting with the transition process and will work closely with the City Manager in identifying the next Chief of Police. Chief Albright's last day with the department has not been determined but is expected sometime in late March.
