Bulky waste should not be placed out for collection more than 24 hours prior to the day of your appointment. Placing material out sooner may result in a citation for illegal dumping, this includes any material added or dumped on your pile by unknown persons.
Basic Service Information
When and Where
Bulky Waste Pick-ups are available to residents three times per year free of charge. Materials must be placed out for collection in front of the residence and on the same side of the street.

Pile Size
A pile measuring 7' x 6' x 4' is the maximum amount of material that will be accepted. This is equal to five cubic yards of material, which is about the size of a pick-up truck bed filled even with the top of the cab. If you think you might have more than the maximum, please notify Republic Services when you schedule your pickup. View charges for excess materials
Acceptable Items
Acceptable materials include items such as the following:
- old toys
- appliances
- furniture
- PVC pipes (not to exceed 4" in diameter and 5' in length)
- junk
- pruning waste
- tree branches
- TV's*
- Computer monitors*
*Please notify the Republic Services representative if you have these items when you call to schedule your pickup.
Unacceptable Items
Unacceptable materials include items such as the following:
- commercial waste
- dirt
- rocks
- bricks
- tree stumps
- lumber (not to exceed 4" in diameter and 5' in length. Fencing must be disassembled)
- combustible materials
- liquids
- toxic materials
- household garbage
- steel pipes
- batteries
- heavy materials, such as large car parts (bumpers & engines).
Oversized Piles
If a resident places an excessive amount of material (more than 5 cubic yards) at their curb without prior arrangements, Republic Services crews will collect the first 5 cubic yards and leave a Non-Collection Notice (tag) on the remaining material. Alternatively, they may collect all material and charge an additional fee according to the fee schedule. Any uncollected material must be removed immediately to avoid a citation.
Self Haul
All Elk Grove residents are entitled to self-haul one load of material to the Elder Creek Transfer Station once per year at no cost.
What can you take to the transfer station? Please refer to the acceptable / unacceptable item list for curbside bulk waste pickups.
Note: Hazardous materials are not accepted at the transfer station. Visit our Special Waste Collection Center to dispose of these items.
On-call pick-up of Excess Refuse and Bulky Waste
Republic Services can schedule a pickup (fees applicable) of excess refuse and bulky waste should residents need an additional pickup beyond the three free per year available by way of the Neighborhood Cleanup Program. The fee for this service is restricted to 5 cubic yards of material or a pile measuring 7' x 6' x 4' is the maximum amount of material that will be accepted. This is equal to five cubic yards of material, which is about the size of a pick-up truck bed filled even with the top of the cab.
