Common Code Violations and Potential Remedies

Portable Recreational Sports Equipment

Relocate basketball hoop to private property as it is prohibited from obstructing the public right of way (sidewalk/street).

Graffiti

Remove all graffiti from public view.

Inoperable/Unregistered Vehicle

Ensure all vehicles stored/parked on private property are registered and operable or kept in an enclosed structure.

Yard Parking

Park and store all vehicles on impervious surfaces only (i.e. concrete)

Storage of Personal Property on Public Property

Immediately remove items (examples; Appliances, rubbish, items intended to be placed inside, etc.) placed on the public right-of-way (street and/or sidewalk) and store out of public view and/or dispose of in a lawful manner. You may contact Republic Services at (916) 635-2500 to schedule a bulky waste pick up, however, items may only be placed on the street until 24 hours before the pick up is scheduled to take place.

Prohibited Discharge

It is prohibited to discharge any chemicals, fluids, etc. into City stormwater conveyance system.

Water Waste

Cease/stop water from running off the property and/or pooling in the public right of way.

Waste Cart Storage

Carts shall not be set out more than 24 hours before pick up time, and shall be returned to storage no later than 6am the following morning. Carts shall be stored adjacent to the residence or behind side yard fence.

Rubbish, Refuse, and Dirt

Lawfully dispose of all rubbish/refuse.

Trees/Shrubs

All trees/shrubs must be properly trimmed and not encroaching onto the street/sidewalk at all times.

High Weeds/Tall Grasses

Cut all high weeds/tall grasses on front, side and rear of the property and dispose of in a lawful manner.

Fence Maintenance

Repair/replace fence boards and maintain all fences and walls at all times.

Abandoned and/or vacant buildings or structures

Maintain property in accordance to Elk Grove Municipal Code Standards at all times.

Prohibited Signage

Signage is not allowed on any public right of way or on any city property, this includes utility and light poles. Signs must be removed or relocated to private property.

Abandoned or Dismantled vehicles on the street

Vehicles parked on a public street must move every 72 hours, shall be registered and operable. Please contact the Elk Grove non-emergency Police line at 916-714-5115 to report an abandoned, dismantled and/or inoperative vehicle.
