The City of Elk Grove is working to enhance internet connectivity for its residents and businesses.
In January 2022, the City adopted Connected Elk Grove: A Smart City Plan. One of the goals of the Plan is to expand broadband connectivity as it is critical for many purposes including work and school. To ensure that everyone has access to broadband connectivity, the City is focused on providing infrastructure, training, and hardware.
As part of this effort, the City received a grant from the Tides Center and Connect Humanity to develop a Digital Access Report detailing digital equity, access, and affordability issues in Elk Grove. This Report provides data on digital access and affordability, resident sentiment on current services, outlines opportunities to improve broadband and includes feasibility and market analysis. The Report provides a high-level view of the current state of broadband access for Elk Grove residents and outline options for moving forward. The report was presented and discussed at the September 13, 2023 City Council meeting. The Council recommended to staff to move forward with a feasibility study on a Public-Private Partnership to improve broadband connectivity.
Feasibility Assessment
The City has partnered with Digital Ubiquity Capital to explore the development of the City’s broadband network. The work is ongoing and information will be shared as it becomes available. The completion date for the assessment is expected to be spring 2025.
