In anticipation of daily temperatures topping the century mark this week, the City of Elk Grove will open a cooling center beginning Wednesday, September 4 and operating daily from Noon to 8 p.m. through Friday, September 6 at the Elk Grove Police Department located at 8400 Laguna Palms Way.
Organizers are initiating the opening of the cooling center in response to the National Weather Service Sacramento heat advisory for the region. The Cooling Center is open to anyone who lacks shelter or adequate home cooling. A limited number of animal kennels will be available to house pets.
Hot days pose a danger of heat related illness. People of all ages are encouraged to take the following precautions:
- Avoid outdoor activities in the direct sun from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and
- Keep hydrated; and
- Stay in a cool space.
