Elk Grove will open an Overnight Warming Location (OWL) beginning tonight, Monday, December 12, and operate it nightly through Thursday, December 15. The location for the OWL will change on Tuesday. Operating locations will be as follows:
• Monday, December 12: The Center at District56 (8230 Civic Center Drive)
• Tuesday-Thursday, December 13-15: Wackford Community Complex (9014 Bruceville Road)
The OWL is open to adults 18 and older who lack shelter or adequate home heating. Operating hours will be 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. each day. Pets are not permitted. Face coverings will be required unless visitors are eating or sleeping. Families with children will be referred to a motel voucher program coordinated by Elk Grove HART.
Cosumnes Fire Department CERT, Elk Grove Police Department, and Elk Grove HART volunteers will staff the OWL. Organizers initiated the opening of the OWL because projected temperatures will fall to or below 32 degrees three or more days in a row.
